1. Which light should I use, White or Red?
If you are using the YumaLite to bring some sunshine into your life, you can use either the White or Red LED light. We suggest starting with the White. Either option will give you brighter days.

If you are a heavy–user of computers, cell phones or flat screen TVs, you may be getting too much blue light which is very stimulating. In this case, we suggest you use the Red light. Red is on the opposite end of the spectrum and can help to balance overexposure to blue light.
2. Where should I shine the light?
YumaLite has a tilting mechanism which allows you to direct the light. Position the visor so that the light angles toward your eyes the same way sunlight would. For the light to be effective, the light needs to hit your retina, which is at the back of your eyes, so you need to keep your eyes open, but you do not need to look directly into the light. However, it isn’t harmful if you happen to look at the light source.
3. When should I use my YumaLite as a replacement for sunshine?
We recommend using YumaLite in the morning. Think of it as a way of mimicking the light we would normally be exposed to on a summer morning. Light at that time of day tells our body that it’s time to wake up. This happens because light signals our brain to stop producing melatonin—the sleep hormone. Melatonin is what makes us feel sleepy and if our body doesn’t get the signal from light in the morning to stop producing it, we will find it hard to get going. Light in the morning helps our body function normally. Feel free to use your YumaLite again during the afternoon. Some people find a second exposure of light at this time helps them get through the day. We do not recommend using YumaLite in the evening as this is when you want your body to prepare for sleep. In the absence of light, your body will start producing melatonin, making you feel tired.

Symptoms of light deficiency stem from the body clock being out of whack. Using YumaLite in the morning and afternoon, but not in the evening, will help you entrain your body’s internal clock to get back on track.
4. When should I use my YumaLite for balancing exposure to blue light?
You can use the YumaLite Red light in the morning, afternoon or early evening. If you are more sensitive and find the Red light wakes you up – then use it in the morning or early afternoon.
5. What tips will help me get the most benefit from my YumaLite?
Incorporating your YumaLite into some of your routine activities will help ensure that you use it regularly. If you routinely eat breakfast, go on your computer, or read the paper in the morning, try using your YumaLite then.

Keep your YumaLite in a spot where you will see it when you wake up. This will help remind you to use it. Also, keep it where it is easily accessible. A night table or dresser might be a handy spot.

Replace the batteries as soon as they wear out.

Keep your bedroom dark at night. Using blackout blinds over any windows will keep the light out. This will help you sleep more soundly. In the morning, open the blinds and use your YumaLite. Before technology changed how humans lived, we had adapted to the natural world, which was dark at night and light in the morning and afternoon. Mimicking this natural contrast between dark and light over the course of a day helps our body function normally.
6. Will the LED light damage my skin?
No. LED light is considered beneficial to the skin.
7. How long will the batteries last? Can I use rechargeable batteries?
Battery life is dependent on several factors, including usage and the type of battery used. We recommend AAA Alkaline batteries as they last an estimated 19 hours.

It is important to use AAA Alkaline batteries. Batteries that are marked “Heavy Duty” or “Extra Duty” are designed for slow drain items and will not work as efficiently with the YumaLite.

And yes, you can use rechargeable batteries—you may find them to be an economical option in the long run.
8. Does the YumaLite emit harmful UV radiation?
No, it doesn’t. The LED lights used in the YumaLite are safe and do not emit UV radiation.
9. What is the difference between the YumaLite and the LightWorks?
While both units use LED light and color, the two units are quite unique in their purpose and features:

The YumaLite uses LED light to balance effects many feel during times of decreased exposure to natural sunlight as well as to counteract overexposure to blue light from cell phones, computer monitors and flat screen TVs. The unit offers the choice of gentle White and Red LED light.

With the YumaLite, the light is applied gently to the eyes by wearing an easy–to–use visor. The LED light is very gentle – not intense like the LightWorks LED lights.

In comparison, the LightWorks uses LED light combined with healthy frequencies to gently stimulate the body electric for energy, general health and well–being. The light is delivered through a Hand Paddle, which enables you to target specific areas. The 60 LEDs in each LightWorks Hand Paddle are very intense, in order to saturate the target area with photons. The intensity of the LEDs also allows for deeper penetration, stimulating the target area.

With the addition of the LightWorks Hand Paddle Set, users are able to choose between 6 different colors – Red, Infrared, Orange, Yellow, Green and Blue. In addition to color selection, users are able to choose from 7 different frequencies, allowing the user to truly personalize their LightWorks sessions.
10. Where is the YumaLite manufactured?
The manufacturing of the YumaLite is a global collaboration. We do not know all the countries that participated in the making of the YumaLite, as SOTA purchased the assets of the original YumaLite Company including their remaining inventory. We do know the following countries participated in the making of the YumaLite (listed in alphabetical order): Canada and China. Our units say Made in China because China is the last step in the assembly of the units.

We are grateful that the people in these countries help us to produce quality products at reasonable prices for our customers.
